Ottawa Hills:Early Owners, Architects & Builders 2023

—a 106 page full color study documenting the architects, builders and early owners of nearly 300 homes in the one-hundred-year-old Grand Rapids neighborhood. This collection of period-style homes, set on wide curving streets that follow the former cart paths of a 1905 golf links, were designed by the city’s most popular architects and builders. Despite their historic styles, they were equipped with the most modern conveniences of the day. The majority of homes were completed between 1922 and 1935. This is the story of the homes and the owners who who represented the city’s elites, trend-setters, middle class families, and even new immigrants. Within two weeks, they snapped up the lots in the first plat of the early automobile suburb and the second plat as well, which had a brand new Renaissance-style Grand Rapids public high school. This book features the early owners, architects and builders (when known) of each of the homes in this historic neighborhood. Building Story Press 2023.
