cherry street walk
Cherry Street is an amazing street and makes a great 30-minute walk among the surviving mansions of some of Grand Rapids most prominent citizens. Cherry Street runs east to west, and is sandwiched between Fulton Street to the north, and Wealthy Street to the south. It is also, paradoxically, the location of many modern commercial buildings such as the IBM Building, the former Builders & Exchange headquarters, and the iconic modern commercial buildings designed by well-known Grand Rapids builder James Bronkema. Most of these buildings have beautifully restored. For example, the former D.A. Blodgett Home for Children, restored by and formerly used as offices by the Inner City Christian Federation (ICCF). Also on this section is the LEED certified brew pub Brewery Vivant, located in a former funeral designed to imitate an English Tudor-style home.
These buildings are located on the Cherry Street virtual tour. Brief building histories are provided below.
